Virtualize your ISA or Forefront TMG servers

In the past, ISA has had very limited or no support on Microsoft's virtualization platform. Now, ISA and Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) is supported . I met up with Jim Harrison to get some guidance on what you need to think about when you virtualize your ISA/TMG servers. We quickly dive into a whiteboard session on the various ways you can configure Hyper-V / virtual server to work with ISA/TMG and dig into the advantages and disadvantages of each network configuration such as:

Performance
Management
Administration
Security

Some other things we talk about:

Configuration options of the actual ISA/TMG server

Bob Muglia is the Senior Vice President of our Server and Tools division - that makes him 'kind of a big deal' around here. A little while ago, I got to attend a meeting with Bob and one of the product teams he looks after, and he mentioned in passing some of the, let's say, 'challenges' he'd had getting certain things configured on his home network. A VP that does his own network administration? I was interested enough that I asked Bob if we could talk about that, and he found time in his busy schedule for us to meet.
In addition to the 9 server infrastructure that runs Bob's house, we talk about the various roles he's had in his 20 years at Microsoft, why he's excited about Server 2008, and how his team went about creating Windows Home Server - the solution for those who would rather leave their IT Pro activities at work.

Yossi Siles made a visit from Microsoft in Israel back to the Redmond campus and I was able to get an interview with him in my office. Ever wonder how the TAP, RDP, and customer programs really work? Why Microsoft doesn't allow more people into these things?

In this interview, we de-mystify the customer programs for early adopters and also talk a little bit about some of the certification programs ISA puts itself through. The ISA team is apparently still looking for people for a short period of time, so watch the interview and learn more. When he talks about "our program", this would be the IT Pro Momentum program - also to help customers adopt technology early.
