In this episode of the IT Manager Podcast - we've stitched together 4 interviews we recorded at the Montreal International Gaming Summit in late November. Microsoft Canada used MIGS as a launch vehicle for High Performance Computing in Canada.

We get an update on the use of HPC in the Gaming industry and talk about how it can be used to help speed up the increasingly complex game development pipeline. This episode isn't just about technology - we also take the time to talk with Ubisoft Montreal about their approach to managing a team of developers and artists who created the long awaited FarCry 2 game title.

Windows HPC Server 2008 released to manufacturing

This morning we just announced the release of Windows HPC Server 2008 to manufacturing. This is a major milestone and ensures that the HPC offering supports the Windows Server 2008 release.

This release will enable no scientist to be left behind in their pursuit by making it a lot easier for them to approach the technology, but it will also bring this into the reach of mainstream computing, but provding developers with a high level programing abstraction, so that they can quickly crunch business data.

The community site for Windows Server 2008 is at http://www.windowshpc.net and details about how to download the software can be found at http://technet.microsoft.com/evalcenter/cc835241.aspx after 12pm PST.

An interview with Kyril Faenov on High Performance Computing (HPC) / Windows Compute Cluster Server

I chatted with Kyril Faenov, the general program manager of HPC, and asked things like why Microsoft even decided to get into the high performance computing environment, what can be done with the product, and why you might use Microsoft’s HPC solution over the others. My knowledge of HPC was pretty limited, so this is a great one to watch for an interesting intro. HPC for the stock market, video rendering, people already using 10s of thousands of nodes? If you care to listen over the edge, you’ll find elephants from Thailand, and some other interesting pieces from a known Russian artist.
