I recently had the opportunity to meet with KC Lemson and Jim Lucey to talk about Exchange 14. Jim talked in depth about Exchange Labs and how we use that to do large scalability testing of Exchange - we currently host 3.5 Million mailboxes on Exchange Labs. Jim also gives a brief demo of the user experience, showing how you have access to your mail and calendar via Outlook, the browser, or your mobile phone.

This video is the first in a series covering what's new in Exchange 14, check back over the coming months to see what else is new in the product.

Not related to E14, but what was the cool windows mobile phone app used to show the phone screen on the computer?

Great stuff. I would like to thank you for the info about new E14.
I hope it will be as good as E2K7 SP1 and with less powershell, at the end we are MS not Linux users.

I would like to know more about system/hardware requirements.

Next time please use Camtasia or similar application. Thank you.

This looks so cool! I'm really looking forward to seeing a beta.  I could really make use of the product with more of a hosted focus as I run a hosted system for about 70,000 users. More of a focus on making the hosting easier is great.

I'm a bit worried about the self-administration stuff unless you can put some format-checking in place. For example, letting anyone type in whatever for a phone number could kill having OCS work correctly for calling. I know that these features won't be required to turn on, but making the phone number come out as a +1 (123) 555-5555 x123 format, for example, would save a lot of headaches. The current forms looked like you could make your office phone number "AT&T"! This wouldn't be very useful.

Thanks,
We hope to soon information (news, announcements, coments, docs, videos...) of the new E14

Can we finally make groups owners of groups or distribution lists?  I know it sounds silly but it would be helpful.

Hi,

the tool they use to show the mobile on screen is Pocket Controller Pro (http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro)

I would like to see more of the guts.  What's new with the transport servers (hub and edge) and what improvements can we look forward to in regards to mobile devices.  Loved the sneak peak!  Thanks!

Please note i have no Exchange-training at all so i'm probably not the right person to comment here, i do however work with exchange every day. We manage some e2003 and e2007-servers for clients.

  • How will spam be handled, whitelists etc that i now (in 2007) have to use powershell for?
  • Will there be an option to keep badmail again? I'm handling less than 100 users so personally i could handle the load of scanning the rejected mails for our users. Atleast make it possible, if only for the first days or so when setting up the system.
  • Backups, will there be any built-in option for backing up?

I agree with the camtasia/screencapture program suggestion.

( The posture wasn't that bad Wink )

E14 looks great!  I'm really looking forward to it.    I have a couple of questions on the new features:

What's happening with Public Folders?  Yes I know you want us to use Sharepoint but that's not always practical for smaller orgs.

Will admins be able to "hide" some mailboxes from the GAL but keep the ability to still access those accounts?  For example, we have several "system" accounts for different apps that don't need to be listed on the GAL.  It would look so much cleaner if our users didn't have to see them.

Thanks for the E14 Show & Tell!
