Lets face it, we all make mistakes.  Fortunately there’s a new Windows 7 feature that might just save your bacon if you misplace a USB drive with sensitive information on it.  You’ve probably heard about BitLocker.  It’s the drive encryption technology that’s been around now for a little while.  With Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, we took another step and now allow you to encrypt more than just the operating system drive.  BitLocker To Go is an easy to use encryption technology that will allow you to encrypt the contents of a USB stick or drive and prevent prying eyes from looking at your data.  Considering the number of recent horror stories about all sorts of sensitive data getting into the wrong hands, this feature is long overdue.

Fatanstic and amazing, i like it very much.

new balance

Hey,

Ive recently encrypted my 1tb mybook drive in windows 7 using bitlocker.

It didnt complete saying the drive contained errors.

So I went on to decrypt the drive

During decryption I lost power to my pc and after that, I cant use bitlocker whilst the drive is plugged in

The drive reads on vista however appears encrypted, and when I tried to decrypt in vista it asked that i complete the process in windows 7

I have tried to reformat windows 7 to see if bitlocker would open again, but no dice.

It just freezes.

I even called microsoft for support and they couldnt even fix my problem wtf... they told me to see  a local technician!!!

The technician charged me 700 dollars to fix the problem... get out of here.

I have the recovery key saved to usb... but no clue how to recover data.....

Please help me, its 1tb! its my life on the drive. thanks.

Considering that this is a newer advancement, I would wait til things cool down. I am one of those persons who get things when they know it's their money's worth and not by hype. Make Money Online

Who in there right mind would test bitlocker from and RC OS on their primary USB drive that had all there personal data on it! I take it you have a mirrored one or backup of it?

Lol, the second comment above mine is so funny! The feature is great. I hope data will be kept better using the windows. Thank you for the information.

Oh thats a great tool. I am so happy that you would allow the encryption technologyto be used on USB drives. The data on drives are often unprotected and it will be a great help.

Thanks for the related screencast showing details of BitLocker

I think especially for companies giving importance to security, they will probably force the security of confidential data by forcing policies.

I have also written down my experience with Windows 7 BitLocker to Go Windows disk encryption tool on my post

Thanks,

Eralper
