There is alot of talk these days around business intelligence, and it's important that we at IT Professionals understand what is is, what it came from, and where it's going. The folks over on the Business Intelligence team sent me this video that tells the story of B.I. in a very unique way.

Fun to watch, though a bit "too much switching" that distracts viewer from a clear message. 'Bout the content, very good and "agreeable", but I miss talking on something such as BI 3.0 or BI X.0 and beyond.

great video but it does not tell us how to cheaply or effectively use BI and BI solutions I work with SMBs and SBS and EBS and implementing BI is much harder with limmited resources.

Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video. I love this comment as it gets to the next level of questions I intended the video to expose.

One of the challenges for BI over the years (especially for SMB) is cost, BI solutions are expensive and smaller organizations don't have the budget or the IT resources to commit. At the same time, they have many of the same data challenges that larger organizations have, if not more of a need for data consumption. I'm working on a part 2 of this video that provides the next level of detail of the last slide "you already have it." One of the ways to truly make BI pervasive is to include BI functionality into existing software that the business owns today. Another important step is to reduce the burden of IT and allow users to access data in a more self service way. Watch for more on this topic at http://blogs.msdn.com/bi

Nicfish, fantastic video! I've been in BI too long to be sane, and this deftly sums it up in an entertaining, creative way (which we need a whole lotta in IT). So much of our problem in IT - BI in particular - is ensuring that the PEOPLE know that they are actually IN the middle.

If we could just upgrade Human 1.0 , we could all go home, right? Smiley
