We are still on sql server 2005 and the lack of built-in sql backup compression like in sql 2008 sometimes is very struggling.
Our databases and their backups are growing day by day so we need to find a way for the most compressed backups.
We are thinking of implementing Litespeed http://www.scriptlogic.com/products/litespeed that seems like the best way for this.
Using some comparisons that I found (with native backup and several other solutions) this tool can compress sql backups up to 80-90 % with the higher speeds than any other tools.
