This 30 minute video shows you how to use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) to build and prepare a Windows Vista desktop image for automated deployment, including:

  • Add operating systems, applications, drivers and packages to MDT
  • Configure Office 2007 into the build process
  • Create a MDT Lite Touch task sequence
  • Setup a lab based deployment point
  • Create a customized build to a reference computer
  • Capture the reference computer as a customized WIM
  • Add the customized WIM back into MDT for deployment

Good video, wish there were more of these.

One thing I would like to point out is that not only do we want to know how to do something but when explaining options the why is also important. For instance, it seems like you can add applications to a build in a couple different places. Why do it one way rather than another?

Again, good video though!

Could this be posted in a more universally accepted format? This just sends my video into a fit forcing me to reboot.

Very nice video. However I got MDT 4.2 and some options are different. Especially when I want to add customized WIM back to MDT. When I choose "..Client Replace.." it doesn't ask me for operating system, instead it tells me that this template is not for installing operating system. Should I add customized WIM using standard client task and remove some steps from tasklist? I'm lost, any guidance much appreciated.

Thanks, Marcin

Hi,

is there anything similar for Windows 7? Or is this working the same way as with Vista?
