Aidan Finn (Systems and Infrastructure Manager with C-Infinity) talks about why he chose NOT to go with VMware in favor of Hyper-V and System Centre.

Aidan is a System Centre MVP and an active blogger and user group leader.  He has been engaged in IT Pro Momentum from the very begining.  He talks about how he has used the program and how he shares his knowledge with others.

He closes out by sharing his plans for the up and coming R2 releases of Windows Server 2008, Hyper-V and System Centre.

Aidan blogs here: http://joeelway.spaces.live.com

You can download the Release Candidate of Windows Server 2008 R2 from here and start build your own Live Migration failover cluster.

And if you live in Ireland and want to join the IT Pro Momentum program please email me mailto:daven@microsoft.com

Enjoy..

Sounds like you've got your hands full there Aidan but it all sounds cool stuff and good luck with C Infinity.

Dave - is the "IT Pro Momentum program" only available to those in Ireland or in the UK as well (I'd be interested in finding out more)?

Thanks Cliff,

Have a chat with your local IT Pro evangelist.  They're usually the local agent of the program AFAIK.

Aidan.

I don't want to burst a bubble here, but so far in this series you've had a Microsoft Gold Partner and a Microsoft System Center MVP explain why they went with Hyper-V and not VMWare. These aren't the most objective evaluators in my opinion.

If you want to convince me, you should have actual customers or more "neutral" parties.

Aidan is one of the most objective techs I 've met.   Very upfront about anything.    So the validation of the MS Products and the other best practices he speaks of is not Microsofty hype but rather pure straightforward good advise.

Thanks Aidan for doing this.  We know it's a lot of work it's great to see you up there.

Good work. He talks about how he has used the program and how he shares his knowledge with others. Apex Professionals LLC

Virtualization has been around for a while, personally I have been working with VMWare and ESX server in large production system. I found that the only good thing about VMWare is where we can backup, export and import the image quickly. However in term of performace, I still person standalone hardware rather than virtualization specially for busy live production system.
