Issac Roybal is the Product Manager for Hyper-V and spent a few minutes with me discussing some very late breaking features in Hyper-V coming with the Windows Server 2008 R2 RC release including changes to the number of supported cores as well as an extremely cool enhancement to the new Live Migration feature.

I have a Hyper-V Server running on a Core2Duo I have just ordered a Quad Core Xeon from Dell.  When I move over that Hyper-V Virtual HDD will it boot up OK?

Thanks for the reply.

So is it just a case of copying over the VHD, recreate the VM attach the HDD and boot?  That's what I thought all it took.....

Ideally, you would Export the VM from the first host and then Import it in the new host. This way you do not need to recreate the VM.
