Done well, it integrates the software development process with business initiatives, promotes team productivity, improves code quality and increases flexibility by reducing the time it takes to build and adapt applications in response to changing business needs.
Done poorly, and you may end up with an application that doesn’t live up to end user expectations, doesn’t integrate well with other systems and can’t meet business requirements.
