I met up with a couple people in the solutions accelerator team responsible for creating the next generation of Windows System and Server reference architecture (WSSRA) guides.  In this video,we get an overview from the program manager (~7 min) and then we dig into deeper details with the beta Windows Server 2008 terminal services infrastructure planning and design (IPD) guide creator.  To take a look at the beta to the TS and AD guides, go to the Connect site by clicking here if new or here if already enrolled. Check it out and see how IPD can help you plan and design your environment moving to Server 2008.

Here's a breakdown of the video:
Interview with Robin Maher (program manager for IPD)

0:00-0:50 What the IPD solution accelerator team does
0:50-2:50 History on what WSSRA is, how the new IPD guide fits in and its benefits.
2:50-4:15 How the WS08 guides apply to existing designs & how it helps with business decisions.
4:15-5:57 We've created an overview document, selecting the right virtualization technology, softgrid, and Windows Server virtualization technology guides here. Terminal Services, AD, and WDS guides are going into beta soon. Homepage for IPD here.
5:57-7:05 Comparison of IPD to the MAP.  (for the interview with the MAP PM, go here)
7:05-7:33 Walk over to Fergus's office, see a MS security guard, and learn about the patent to the guides.

Interview with Fergus Stewart (terminal services IPD guide creator)

7:33-9:05 Intro into what his guide covers at a high level
9:05-11:55 How they come up with the matrix of decisions and how it compares to the terminal services book from MS Press.  IPD guides are not an education on the product, just helps you make decisions for up front planning.
11:55-12:27 1st step in the TS guide: figuring out the scope
12:27-12:58 2nd step : determining which applications to deliver through TS
12:58-15:06 What applications are to use through TS?  Multiple versions of products, video intensive applications and considerations.
15:06-16:55 Why determining which applications to deliver through TS is the most difficult step to take.
16:55-19:43 How does Soft Grid fit into decision making with TS?
19:43-22:55 Legal and political considerations in delivering your app through TS

For the rest of the video, check out the "Over the Edge" with Fergus Stewart.  This installment includes: the declaration of independence, his claim to becoming a U.S. citizen, Argentinean Tango dancing, and see a Mayan temple from Guatemala.
