They dont seem to be organized by:

Date, # of replies or most recent reply. What is the logic here? I end up having to cycle through the (now) 3 pages of posts to see what is what.

I am curious, it seems you are starting from scratch with this site instead of incorporating all the neat things you made\learned\created for channels 9 and 10. Why wouldnt you leverage all those great pieces? Although coming out after them it is instantly inferior to them. I feel like I got a Zune 30 after the Zune 80 came out ...

I agree, I would personally like to see seperate discussion boards as it would make navigating The Perimeter alot easier.

some message boards sort by date or by replies, we at Edge use a new algorithm:  we sort by accident.
I'm looking at the posts in the perimeter, and other than Jeff's welcome post (which is sticky) at the top, I see the posts sorted by most recent activity - either the post date or the most recent reply.  Are you seeing something different?

There's a long story about the codebase we're using here and how it compares to that on Channels 8,9 and 10, but the short version is that we're on the newest version.  It doesn't yet have all the functionality available that Channel 9 has, but it doesn't have a lot of legacy baggage that 9 has either (9 started out on community server and has heaps of mods and bandaids applied).  The code monkeys continue banging away at their little keyboards fixing bugs and adding features, and we occasionally drop by to give them Tab and Mountain Dew.

Sorting is by last post on a thread... the only exception is Jeff's post, which is 'sticky' but has no UI that indicates that 'stickiness'

chaaker: Is there a post that seems to be sorted incorrectly?

As far as the 9/10 comment. This is the 10 code base, with a lot of additional features added... and I feel it is better than the current 9 in some ways, but lacking in a few others. What Adam described above is correct, the 9 codebase was not something we could really build on... but I certainly hope you aren't seeing a reduced experience compared to 10. Other than the sorting, are there specific features you would like to see added to the forums?

Regarding the sticky UI, it's there but O so subtle.  On my machine, it has a different color instead of a traditional pin.  I would prefer to see a pin.

Regarding organization of the forum, I was told that this is currently by design.  I too would like to see some sections but as you might imagine, right now they would be rather empty.  Instead of having a bunch of sections with little traffic, you have one area.

I would assume from the answer I got, that down the road there will be some sections devoted to popular areas.  I can't imagine if this site becomes a success that there wouldn't be sections for deployment, security, desktop OS, server OS, etc.

Time will tell I guess...
